Well kids, welcome to my newly designed part of the internet! Woo! Yay. Yippie. Yes, that’s me you hear taking a big, loooong sip of a cocktail.
Lets take a little look at the transformation:
What you see today is still a work in progress. It aint perfect. Hello, side bar, footer, about me, pages, etc. But the fact is, this blog design makes me excited about blogging. It makes me want to slap shit on the internet and shout to the world that it’s mine. More juicy details after the jump.
Three-and-a-half-months I spent on this gem! Some of my shoes don’t even last that long. Lets get real. I almost gave up. I yelled things at my computer that I am not repeating. I drank obnoxious amounts of chai lattes. I overcame and now present you my little beaut, A Style Moment. Thoughts on the name? I am genetically incapable of creating cool, funny and hip blog names. Seriously. Give me a person’s real life name, say Darcy, and I can give you 12 nicknames in 30 seconds flat. Like, sweeeet nicknames. Ask me to name a blog? Crickets. It is miles better than my original, but maybe I don’t love it. Maybe I do. Who cares. It’s what I’m sticking with people.
The most frustrating part of the process was communicating my ideas. It made me REALLY REALLY realize how important communication skills are. I thought I was the bomb dig at communication. I invented that shit. But it turns out, I was wrong. BUT. I do like finding out I’m wrong about things. It makes me a better person. And I kind of think this whole design-and-force-yourself-to-communicate-with-YOUR-DAD-while-building-a-website-for-the-first-time-in-your-life thing really did make me a better person. It also made me realize I am in a major love relationship with graphic and web design. Who knew?
This is maybe the 10th or so version of my website that I created. There were many, many MANY drafts that we tested and nixed. My poor father. I think he wanted to slap HIMSELF in the face for telling me that we should build a website together. He thought he knew how demanding and crazy I was before. He had no idea. Ps. he is a genius, so if you need help with your website or some digital coaching, holla at ya boy. You can expect this blog design to be ever-changing (in a fun, exciting, not annoying way) as I continue to develop my self-taught designer skills.
Logistics: If you followed me before over at Honorable Mention, you will have to re-follow. Sadly followers didn’t transfer over, so follow away people! I highly suggest using Bloglovin‘ to stay up-to-date, it is literally the best site ever for keeping all of your inspiration indexed and organized. There is no email subscription option right now, but eventually, I will have a weekly newsletter. Stay tuned.
Big shout out to Pugly Pixel for (unknowingly) guiding me through this process via inspiration and tutorials and by just being aweomse. My saving grace if you will.POSTED IN Design, Life
